They are the two brightest stars in the constellation Gemini the Twins. Pollux is slightly brighter than Castor and shines with a golden glow while Castor appears whiter.

Generally in Greek mythology they are twins. Pollux is the immortal son of Zeus, and Castor is the mortal son of King Tyndareus of Sparta.
